Inspiring stories and journey of breast cancer survivors at the Pink Ribbon Day At SM
Yes, I'm a year older but this time instead going to a fancy restaurant, buying myself expensive things I decided to attend the Pink Ribbon Day at SM City North Edsa last October 2, in celebration of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer is the second cause of death in female after lung cancer and it saddened me to know that Philippines tops the list of breast cancer incidences in Asia. One of every Filipinas are at risk of getting it in her lifetime.
The Pink Ribbon Day was organized by SM Care in partnership with the Philippines Breast Cancer Society and SM City North Edsa. This event was attended by different Women's groups, media, doctors and advocates. This event aims to encourage every Filipino women to have their breast examined for early detection and prevention.
Zumba session with Ms. Regine Tolentino
I arrived just in time as the music started for the Zumba session and I saw Ms.Regine Tolentino dancing on the stage. The attendees are enjoyed their time while following the dance steps.
Inspiring Stories of the Breast Cancer Conquerors..
Maritoni Fernandez , Alya Honasan and Toni Abad shared their inspirational stories from the first time they were diagnosed with Breast Cancer, their journey and how they beated the Big C.
I remembered that Ms.Maritoni Fernandez said " women are the rock of the family" which I did agree. She also advise that we should take care of ourselves so we can able to take care of our family for a long time. "Right Attitude" also play a big role in defeating the. cancer.
I was really glad that I attended the event since they also have free check-up and screening.
I remembered that Maritoni asked the attendees to raise their hands if they already had mammogram, but unfortunately only few raised their hands.
The speaker also mentioned that as early as 20 years old, they are already encouraged to visit a doctor and have an annual mammogram.
In it's early stage, Breast Cancer has no symptoms. Make sure to take note of these symptoms
Here are some of the symptoms of Breast Cancer:
2. Swelling in the armpit
3. Pain in the breast
4. Unusual discharge from the nipple
5. Any change in the size, color and texture of the breast
Early Detection is very important because it can help detect and prevent the spread of tumor and the chance of survival will be high. The most important test for breast cancer is the mammogram, it is like an x-ray test for breast. If breast cancer is detected early there will be a lot of treatment options and a higher chance of survival.
We should continue to help inform and educate ourselves and our fellow Filipinas about the risk of getting the big C and promote awareness, early detection and early intervention to help fight breast cancer among women.
Visit your doctor and get an annual check-up and request for a mammogram exam.
