The Philippines’ Magna Carta for Disabled Persons ensures the rehabilitation, self-development, and self-reliance of persons with disabilities. The country provides educational assistance to people with disabilities from primary to tertiary education, including vocational or technical training. One such school is the Philippine School for the Deaf (PSD) in Pasay City. For over a century, the school had demonstrated the transformative power of education in empowering and unlocking the capabilities of those with diverse disabilities to live fulfilling lives. Gaining solid ground through education

Stability is the foundation of a well-lived life. With basic needs fulfilled, people have the opportunity to develop themselves, explore various facets of life, and contribute to the welfare of the community. When aspiring youth, especially those from low-income households, are given the chance to stand on solid ground, they readily take the chance. They utilize it as a seedbed where they can cultivate their dreams and aspirations. One testament to this is SM scholar alumna Jonnah Jane Sacamay, who grew up in a family where stability seemed like an uncharted territory. Years back, Jonnah’s family’s main source of living was flower farming. This made them walk on a thin line as the demand for flowers was seasonal, and they were also often affected by unpredictable weather disturbances.  But while they had journeyed through life with uncertainty, they had always planted in her mind the power of education. “Given that the nature of farming is very seasonal, our income is not stable.   With the National Elections just within reach, Rex Education and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) are working together to help educate voters about the values we should be looking for in the leaders we will elect. “How the Philippines will come out of this pandemic and handle the impending global economic recession will rely on the next 6 years. This is why it is crucial that the leaders we will elect in the upcoming May 9 elections share the heart of the Filipino people and possess the values to stand for and serve our country. We have to choose well and vote for someone who is truly Maka-Pilipinas,” said Rex Education CEO, Don Timothy Buhain. The leader we deserve is Maka-Pilipinas Varying standards, opinions, and principles come into play in the bid for national and local positions. What matters in the end when electing a leader is that it’s not enough to choose someone wise and experienced; we must also choose a leader who embodies the virtues of a t...

Lacson to use education to fight poverty

Anti-corruption crusader Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will fight persistent poverty in the country by giving young people more access to education. Lacson points out that the Philippines has a high dropout rate because of poverty. Young people are forced to leave school to help their families and because being in school are proving to be a heavy financial burden. They remain mired in poverty because without a good education their prospects are limited and they can only get low-paying jobs. In this latest video, the presidential aspirant who wants to reform government and make it truly work for the good of the people will launch the innovative Edukasyon Plus program if elected. The program will provide free education and institute a government internship program. Each family will receive a P5,000 monthly allowance during their family members’ internship. Lacson believes that this arrangement will allow students to focus on their studies as they will not be under pressure to help ...

5 Newest Gadgets to Make Distance Learning Easier

Adjusting with the so-called "new normal" has been the trend since the pandemic started. With social distancing and quarantines implemented, one of the things that my husband and I carefully decided is if my daughter will attend her school this academic year, but with  all educational institutions agreeing to continue operating remotely and without the face-to-face aspect of traditional classrooms, we decided to still enroll her in their online classes.  With distance learning requiring a range of technology to improve the educational experience, it is important to give our kids the best tools that they can equip to help them with their online learning. On.Ward PH , the newest and most innovative retail store for top-of-the-line products for Education, Work from Home, Content Creation, Fitness and Health, Gaming, and Smart Products from well-known brands have recently released 3 latest products for a creative and easiest way of learning online. 5 Tips From Tang to Get Your Kids Ready for Distance Learning

Education is the greatest gift you can give your child. As parents, we prioritize the safety of our children above all, but at the same time, we also want to make sure that they are prepared for their future by providing them with proper education despite this pandemic. While ensuring the safety of our kids and preparing them for the new normal for learning, a lot of parents and kids are caught up in the whirlwind by trying to cope up with the distance learning and setting up all the needed apps or software to be prepared for an online class, which all of us parents can relate since we have been used to dropping our kids at school and picking them up once school ends. It somehow brought up the inner tech support within us as parents. Admit it or not we are all caught off-guard but we are trying to do our best to make it happen for our kids, and though the preparation for some parents is extended until October with some schools following the government’s recent announcement yo...

Integrating the Whole Child Approach with K-12: Steps Towards a Future for Holistic Learning

When we talk about holistic learning, it always entails the progressive pedagogy called the Whole Child Approach (WCA). Initiated by the the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), this approach is a fresh take on what holistic education means, taking into consideration all the aspects of a young learner´s journey towards long-term development and success. With its tenets, the Whole Child Approach seeks to create challenging and sustainable learning environments for young learners, shaping them into well-rounded individuals. Recently, particularly in early-childhood education policy-making and practice, the idea that the WCA represents an incomplete methodology has proliferated. Policy-makers who are against the whole child approach often argue from a practical standpoint: they look at a child and see their education as a sort of investment. This is how they think: if the process of "investing" in a child's education takes too much resour...

SMPF Kids Kitchen Camp: Enhancing Skills of Young Cooking Enthusiasts

Cooking is more than a passion for me, it is my way showing my love for my family and the people I care for, the joy of seeing someone satisfied with the food I cook is fulfillment for me. These are the same things that I try to pass to my daughter every time I teach her how to cook. At her young age, she already has the basic skills for cooking and can already distinguish ingredients and dishes that are appealing to her taste. Aside from teaching her, I give her the opportunity to enhance her skills by going into some classes, and last May 3, 2019, at the 28‘" floor Kitchen Studio of the Makati Diamond Residences (MDR), little chefs-in-the-making got their hands busy at the Kids Kitchen Camp organized by the San Miguel Pure Foods (SMPF) Culinary Center in collaboration with Makati Diamond Residences.
