Potatoes USA Cooking Workshop + My Shrimp and Bacon Balls Recipe using U.S. Dehydrated Potato Flakes

Potatoes play a big part in the diet of Pinoys. We use them in a lot of our ulam (viands), we enjoy them for snacks like chips and fries, and they are often our preferred side dish like mashed potato.

They are so versatile, and may I add, very nutritious, too! They are packed with vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium, complex carbohydrates, fiber and calcium among others. My daughter who is now in grade school benefits from all the nutritious goodness in potatoes. They are a constant in my pantry because they are very affordable. A win-win!

So, I said yes right away when I was invited to the Potatoes USA Cooking Workshop. It was held last October 25 at the Magsaysay Institute of Culinary Arts in Mandaluyong City.

The event was a collaboration between Potatoes USA and Momma ‘n Manila blog with guest celebrity mom-chef Rosebud Benitez-Velasco. She shared three potato recipesthat are so easy to prepare! These are U.S. Potato Crusted Salmon with Truffle Potato Sauce and Fruit Salsa, U.S. Potato Pudding and U.S. Mashed Potato Truffle.

I am amazed with U.S. dehy. It just makes cooking so much easier! Instead of spending time peeling, boiling, and mashing, U.S. dehy makes kitchen work less complicated. It is also easy to store and has a long shelf life.

I especially enjoyed the hands-on cooking activity where we tried to recreate one of the dishes earlier demonstrated by Chef Rosebud. We prepared the salmon dish and it was so much fun! See the final product below:

Let me talk a bit more about U.S. dehy because that’s what I’m going to use in my recipe. U.S. dehy is a true blue U.S. product made of premium potatoes. The only difference is in its more lightweight and compact form and perhaps in its great versatility. You can use it in so many ways! Add them in soups, stews, sauces and even use them in baking. It can also be used to make siomai, pizza dough, hotdog and native kakanin. The possibilities are endless!

U.S. potatoes are now available in the Philippines in three forms:  fresh potatoes, frozen potatoes, and dehydrated potatoes.  You may find them in your local groceries. If you’re looking for dehy, you may find them in baking supply stores. You can also contact the local Potatoes USA office to request for a supplier near you.

Here is one of my latest recipes where I used U.S. Dehydrated Potato Flakes. I can’t get over how easy it is to use and how much time I saved.

My family absolutely love it! I hope you do, too.

Tigdas/Measles: Mga Sintomas, Pagkain at Lunas

Nutri 10 Plus, Vitamins Perfect For Child's Growing Needs

Summer is already here. The temperature last week was 34°c and its getting hotter everyday. We have to open our windows to make sure that we won't get suffocated because of the heat. Summer is also the season of flu, bacteria that can cause cough and build up of phlegm. Kids should always be geared with proper protection. Their body needs protection from harmful diseases. That's why I was so thankful that I used Nutri 10 vitamins for my Chelsea. This is the kind of vitamins that she really need. For sure most of you know that Chelsea is a picky eater. She only eat if we have Sinigang or gravy that she put in her steamed rice. After taking Nutri 10 for almost a month now. I noticed some changes in her appetite and daily routine.  Before, Chelsea stays up until 2 am and wakes up around 11 am. Thankfully that routine changed and she also started to eat vegetables. As a mom I'm always worried because I know that she is not getting the right nutrients that her

A quick trip down holiday memory lane

Can you feel it? The cold breeze, holiday songs, festive decorations, and colorful lights and lanterns… it’s Christmas season, everybody! Filipinos are known to celebrate Christmas the longest – it starts with the BER months and ends in January. Along with parties and get-togethers, we also have different traditions to celebrate the yuletide season. Since I was a kid, I associated grapes and round fruits with the holiday season. My grandma used to buy a lot of grapes during the BER months and placed them on our table along with other fruits. The grapes were also hung on windows and doors to help bring in good fortune for the coming year. I remember her asking me who was eating the grapes as she noticed that they were slowly “disappearing” and I said it must have been my aunties and our cat. But… It was silly me all along, of course! My aunties ended up buying more, much to my delight.   For Christmas eve, my aunties and grandma would make their delicious fruit salad – a huge can of f
